About Pilot Car Services

What is a pilot car?

A pilot car is an escort vehicle that travels with an oversize or heavy-haul load. It helps the truck driver see what's coming. It also warns other drivers that a big load is on the road. You'll also hear pilot cars called escort vehicles or escort cars.

What's the difference between a lead and a chase pilot car?

The lead pilot car, or front escort, drives ahead of the load and watches the road in front. The chase pilot car, or rear escort, follows the load and watches traffic coming up from behind. Some moves need one. Some need both. See our lead and chase escort services.

Does KRB Transportation haul loads?

No. We provide pilot car and escort support only. Your carrier hauls the load and we escort it. We also don't transport passengers.

What kinds of loads do you escort?

We provide escort support for heavy equipment, construction equipment, machinery, structural materials and other permitted loads. Not sure about yours? Give us a call.

Who do you work with?

We work with trucking companies and carriers that move oversize and heavy loads. We also support freight brokers, owner-operators, construction and industrial companies, equipment transporters and government contractors.

Do I need a pilot car for my oversize load?

It depends on your load size, your route and the states you're traveling through. Your oversize permit usually spells out escort requirements. Check your permit or ask the state that issued it. Then call us for the escort side of the move.

Coverage and Scheduling

Where do you provide pilot car service?

We're based in East Texas and serve Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma. See our service areas.

Do you take long-distance assignments?

Sometimes. Long-distance assignments may be available depending on the load and route. Call us with the details and we'll let you know.

How far ahead should I book?

As early as you can. The sooner we have your details, the easier it is to plan your escort.

Can you handle wait time or overnight moves?

Tell us about expected wait time or overnight needs when you request a quote. We'll factor it into your plan and your quote.
